Place the root of the cabbage around the main line with the leaves falling back down over the hook. Using a very fine line, bind the cabbage to the line above the hook using a half hitch. Better still use hosiery elastic (Bait Mate) which is available from most tackle stores. Cabbage is found between the low and high tide marks on the edge of low reef areas, sloping rocks boulders, channel markers and buoys and in rock pools. Use your thumb and forefinger to hold the cabbage at the base where it is attached to the rock and gently twist the cabbage off. Once gathered use it straight away or if you wish to keep it for a couple of days, wrap it in newspaper and store it in your fridge. Finely chopped cabbage makes excellent berley for Luderick / Blackfish. Make sure its finely chopped and set your baited hook amongst it.
