Double line Similar to a loop, but both parts of the line are used together rather than working with the loop that is formed.
Doubling For a multi-crossing knot, doubling is achieved when the original lead is repeated alongside the original part of line with the remaining end of the line, thus giving the knot the appearance of having been made with two pieces of line adjacent to each other.
Dropper A short length of monofilament bearing a wet fly and the fly-line. Some leaders are commercially made with droppers attached; alternatively, droppers may be attached to a plain leader with a Blood Knot (p.60).
Dynamic rope Rope designed to absorb the fall of a climber, usually made with either a core of twisted line, which partially acts to absorb stress, or is made from a naturally elastic fabric : polyamide (Nylon) that will absorb stress by elongation and retraction of the individual molecules.
